REUTERS/Philimon BulawayoChina has released funding for Zimbabwe’s largest power station expansion project – the expansion of the Hwange power station, paving way for commencement of work, Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa revealed on Thursday. The release of the funding follows the successful visit to China by Mnangagwa in April. The project, to be undertaken by Chinese firm Sinohydro, will add 600 megawatts of electricity into the national grid when complete.Currently, the coal-fired station has six units with an installed capacity of 920 megawatts.Chinese commercial counselor to Zimbabwe Li Yaohui confirmed the release of the funding.“We have released 200 million U.S. dollars, the other 800 million dollars will also be released in a short time. The groundbreaking ceremony of the project is expected to be held in mid-June,” Li told Xinhua.Hwange is the largest coal-fired power station in the country. It was built in two stages, with the first four units commissioned between 1983 and 1986 while the remaining two were commissioned in 1986 and 1987.In March this year, Sinohydro completed the 300 megawatts Kariba South Hydro Power expansion project which significantly boosts power supplies in the country that is seeking to revive its economy after nearly two decades of stagnant growth.last_img read more

Alister Jack MP Meets Stena Line to Discuss Road InfrastructureAlister Jack MP Meets Stena Line to Discuss Road Infrastructure

first_imgPicture attached L to R: Paul Grant, Alister Jack MP & Andrew Kane AddThis Sharing ButtonsShare to FacebookFacebookFacebookShare to TwitterTwitterTwitterShare to LinkedInLinkedInLinkedInLocal MP Alister Jack met with representatives from Stena Line last week to discuss the need for more investment in road infrastructure to and from the Port of Cairnryan. The Dumfries and Galloway MP travelled to Belfast and met with Trade Director, Paul Grant, and Port Manager, Andrew Kane. At the meeting he heard more about Stena Line’s investment in the Wigtownshire port and spoke about the need for a joint up approach to address the serious lack of infrastructure in Dumfries and Galloway. The ferry company have been hit with a series of road closures in the past year as a result of flooding and road works, which has caused huge disruption and led to the company calling for the Scottish Government to have a serious look at the infrastructure in the area before it causes any further damage to the local economy.Stena Line have gone further and described the Port of Cairnryan as “the least accessible port across Europe.”Following the meeting Mr Jack said, “I welcomed the opportunity to meet with Stena Line to discuss the importance of the Port of Cairnryan to the local economy of Stranraer, and the wider region of Dumfries and Galloway.“People in this region are all too familiar with the problems that stem from under investment in our roads, particularly the A75 and A77, over a number of years.“As other roads and infrastructure across the UK and Ireland are upgraded and improved the Port of Cairnryan will become less and less competitive, and we should be in no doubt that this will have a disastrous effect on our local economy.“I am afraid the time for warm words on this is over, and that is why I will be working with Stena Line and other partners over the next few months to persuade both the Scottish and UK governments to recognise the strategic importance of this port and put some investment into improving the routes to and from it.“The only way that this can be achieved is by everyone coming together, on both sides of the Irish Sea, and that is why I have already spoken to some of the Northern Irish MPs on this matter, and I look forward to bringing them on board too.”Paul Grant, Stena Line’s Trade Director (Irish Sea North) said:“Stena Line was pleased to welcome Alister Jack MP to its Cairnryan – Belfast service last week. The fact-finding visit was timely given the series of recent road closures on the A77 which have impacted negatively on Stena Line’s day to day business operations. Mr Jack is well aware of the shortcomings of the current road provision to and from Loch Ryan having campaigned for A75 road improvements as part of his successful election as MP for Dumfries and Galloway in June of this year. Stena Line looks forward to working with Mr Jack and his colleagues and welcomes his offer of support in the ongoing campaign to lobby the Scottish Government into make the necessary investments these crucial road networks require.”last_img read more

APM Terminals Gothenburg takes major step towards climate neutralityAPM Terminals Gothenburg takes major step towards climate neutrality

first_imgWork has already commenced to make the terminals’ container handling fossil free, and transport of all customer goods through the terminal will already be fossil free by next year. APM Terminals Gothenburg will also be able to offer their customers fully climate-neutral cargo handling through the terminal. APM Terminals Gothenburg is now taking the next steps towards becoming a more efficient gateway by introducing Green Gothenburg Gateway on December 6th at a launch event in front of key stakeholders. A renewable container terminal in Gothenburg During 2020, APM Terminals Gothenburg will switch entirely to renewable energy with their Green Gothenburg Gateway concept. Gothenburg’s container terminal is used by Sweden’s largest exporting and importing firms. A clear signal from the Swedish business sector to APM Terminals Gothenburg is that climate impact needs to be reduced, but an equally clear signal is that this mustn’t result in higher costs and decreased competitiveness. Therefore, the conversion will be done at no cost to customers and will not affect the speed or reliability of cargo handling. “With the Green Gothenburg Gateway concept, the terminal will continue to move Sweden closer to world markets by delivering fast, efficient, and reliable cargo handling,” says Henrik Kristensen, Managing Director of APM Terminals Gothenburg APM Terminals Gothenburg is doing this not only to meet customer demand, but also as their major contribution to Sweden’s ambitious climate target for the transport sector. The Swedish Parliament has decided that by 2030, greenhouse gas emissions from the country’s domestic transports will be 70 per cent lower than 2010 levels.center_img A year ago, APM Terminals Gothenburg introduced the Gothenburg Gateway to accelerate the development of Sweden’s goods transports, having identified the need for Sweden to keep pace as global goods transports grow in scale and become more efficient. Since taking over operation of the container terminal, APM Terminals has made investments and changes that have reduced the terminal’s climate footprint. Carbon dioxide emissions will be approximately 90 per cent lower than they were ten years ago, thanks to measures already implemented and the conversion to renewable fuels. Accordingly, by 2020 the Green Gothenburg Gateway will exceed, by good measure, the local Parliament’s 70 per cent reduction target. Sea News, December 9 “APM Terminals Gothenburg is proud to strengthen the terminals’ contribution to the Swedish business sector’s competitiveness and climate work. Together, we will achieve Sweden’s climate target,” mentions Henrik Kristensen, Managing Director of APM Terminals Gothenburg. Author: Baibhav Mishralast_img read more

Hugely controversial – Chelsea initiate shock talks for PL manager to…Hugely controversial – Chelsea initiate shock talks for PL manager to…

first_imgTuttosport have a claim today which is jaw-dropping. The Turin newspaper explain Chelsea have initiated talks to appoint Rafael Benitez as their next manager. Currently at Newcastle United, Benitez’s contract expires this summer and there have been difficulties agreeing a renewal. With Mike Ashley still unable to complete a deal to sell Newcastle, Benitez’s future remains uncertain, with the club being linked to other options. For some reason, Tuttosport believe a meeting between Chelsea and the Newcastle boss is ‘imminent’, and that could speed up Maurizio Sarri’s move to Juventus.Tuttosport is a Turin newspaper and Juventus is where their concentration will be on this. It’s claimed Chelsea have been looking at several options, and Benitez is one of them. The Spaniard spent a period as interim manager at Stamford Bridge and wasn’t exactly welcomed by all the club’s supporters. There was still bitterness from run-ins when Benitez was in charge of Liverpool, and he wasn’t given an easy ride. This would be a hugely controversial and surprising switch, but Tuttosport believe it’s possible.Newcastle fans, and many at Chelsea, will likely hope it’s Taboolaby TaboolaSponsored LinksSponsored LinksPromoted LinksPromoted LinksTrending TodayForge of Empires – Free Online GameIf You Like to Play, this City-Building Game is AddictiveForge of Empires – Free Online GameUndoDating.comThe Most Handsome Men In Hong Kong On This Dating SiteDating.comUndo熱門話題小心會長過頭…網友推爆:「真的長得超誇張!」熱門話題UndoMisterStocksThese Hilarious Photos Were Captured On The SubwayMisterStocksUndoKeto减肥1個簡單的妙招一夜「融化」腹部贅肉(今晚試試)Keto减肥UndoPerfect-Dating.comAre You Ready to Meet Cool Guys in Tung Chung?Perfect-Dating.comUndoRaid: Shadow Legends | Free DownloadEven Non-Gamers Are Obsessed With This RPG Game (It’s Worth Installing!)Raid: Shadow Legends | Free DownloadUndoLoans | Search AdsNeed a loan?
