Assemblymember Kenn Carpenter has submitted a resolution to the borough assembly asking for continued and full funding for Moose Pass School for the upcoming school year. Carpenter: “Maintaining funding for Moose Pass School ensures the school, housed in a historic building, will continue to operate as a place of learning.” FacebookTwitterEmailPrintFriendly分享Tucked away within the Kenai Mountains-Turnagain Arm National Heritage Area Corridor is Moose Pass Territorial School that serves 18 students in grades K-7. Built in 1930, they have one teacher this year, Ms. Sandra Barron who teaches all grades with the help of a full-time teacher’s aide. No decisions have been made, but there are very serious conversations happening if the proposed budget were to go forward.” The Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly will look at the resolution, at their meeting on Tuesday, May 7, asking for the continued support in the efforts by the district to continue operation of Moose Pass School in its current location. With looming state, and borough budget cuts to K-12 education for the upcoming fiscal year, the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District faces the possible closure or consolidation of six schools within the district. Among those schools looking at possible closures and consolidation: Chapman School, McNeil Canyon School, Moose Pass School, Nikiski Middle-High School, Seward Middle School, and Soldotna Prep School.
